Manhattan Central Booking

Getting arrested in Manhattan can be quite scary. Each day, hundreds of people pass through Manhattan central booking. When something happens to you or someone you love, the system can seem scary. Many people aren’t sure where to begin. If you are looking for someone who has been arrested or you are facing an arrest, it’s useful to know what’s going on. It’s also useful to know what will happen during the processing procedures. In general, nearly everyone who passes through this system will face a series of steps that apply to them. Understanding how the system plays out allows people to feel less scared about the future.

The General Arraignment Process

A typical arrest starts by placing someone in a holding cell. The person is brought to nearest police precinct. At this point, they can expect to be fingerprinted and given a number known as the arrest number. Once this process is completed, what happens next will defend on a few factors. If the person has no outstanding warrants or other issues with the justice system, they will typically get issued a desk appearance ticket at the precinct. This is an agreement to appear for a hearing in the future. After that, the person is free to leave the area. This is the most common outcome. In some cases, the person may have other legal issues that are apparent once they’ve been arrested. This may include the fact that they are out on parole or otherwise have problems with the law. If someone has a history that is in the system, they may be denied the desk ticket. In that case, they can expect to be transported to what is known as Manhattan’s central booking. This place is located at 100 Centre Street. Then the officer will do what is known as further processing. At this point, they will also be seen by an arraignment judge. This should happen in about a day. The person in question can expect to learn if they can get bail and the kinds of charges they are facing under the law.

Finding People Who Have Been Arrested

People who have ties to someone who has been arrested may not know where that person is located at the present time. This can be important. If this person is a spouse, it’s important to know what’s happening to them and when and if they will be home. The same is true of an adult child, sibling or someone who has ties to another person. Fortunately, people are entitled to know what’s happening. They are also entitled to know about specific details about another person’s case. Be aware that finding out what’s happening may take some effort. People may not even know that someone has been arrested at all. It’s important to keep in mind that just because someone has been arrested, this does not mean they will be held for a long time. Call Manhattan central booking directly. Keep in mind that the line may be busy. It can take some time to find out information. The person on the other end of the line should be able to tell people about the specific circumstances of the arrest. For example, they can tell them about the arrest number. They can also tell them about the person’s arraignment date and any future specifics they need to know to find out what may happen. It’s also possible to show up in person and ask questions. This can be more effective.

Hiring a Lawyer

If there’s an issue with an arrest, it’s a good idea to have wise legal counsel. Wise legal counsel can help people determine what rights they have in the aftermath of an arrest. Counsel can also suggest what next steps should be taken as the case continues. For example, they might point out that arresting officer did not follow procedures properly. In that case, the person arrested may have grounds for dismissal. In the event of greater charges, they can also help by providing legal advice before the person’s case is heard in front of a judge. With their insightful help, even the scary prospect of a court hearing is made much easier.
